Queens emerge victorious in Olds

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens moved one step closer to an ACAC South playoff berth, defeating the Olds College Broncos 3-0 at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday.

Anessa Harrod netted a pair of first-half goals for the Queens (5-5-1), while Erica Navarro added an insurance marker in the 82nd minute. Abby Kotyk made seven saves to preserve the clean sheet for Red Deer Polytechnic, who control their playoff fate and would have a shot at defending their ACAC Women's Soccer Championship.

Meanwhile, the Broncos (4-7-0) were eliminated from playoff contention with the loss as Kaia Galuska made three saves in defeat.

Kyra Remekie was named the Queens' player of the game, while Brynn Smith picked up the honour for the Broncos.

Both teams will finish their regular against the Ambrose University Lions; the Queens travel to Calgary on Oct. 21 at noon, while the Broncos will host the Lions on Oct. 22 at noon.
