Broncos run past Rattlers in Olds

The Olds College Broncos picked up a crucial weekend split, defeating the Medicine Hat College Rattlers 3-1 at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday.

Tiona Paton scored twice for the Broncos (3-6-0), while Mirtalem Vriend added a late marker. Kaia Galuska made a number of key saves for Olds College, while Shelbee Stebanuk picked up player of the game honours.

Keandra Leslie had the lone goal for the Rattlers (3-5-1), while Abby Laloch made seven saves for Medicine Hat; Kadence Dulce-Goller was the Rattlers' player of the game.

Leslie put the Rattlers ahead in the 22nd minute, only for Paton to respond just three minutes later to send the game to halftime tied at 1-1. Paton put the Broncos ahead for good in the 61st minute, while constant offensive pressure gave Vriend the opportunity to add an insurance marker in the 86th minute.

Both the Broncos and Rattlers will travel to Camrose to face the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings in critical ACAC South playoff matchups next weekend; the Broncos will face the Vikings on Saturday, with the Rattlers making the trip on Sunday.
