SAIT defeats UAA

The SAIT Trojans Women's Soccer Team won 2-0 at home on Sunday, shutting out the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings. The win improved SAIT's record to 8-1, while the loss pushed UAA to a record of 4-5.

It was all Trojans from the start - SAIT outshot UAA 16-0 in the first half, including a penalty kick that was saved – but UAA goalkeeper #1 Sofia Ovcharenko stood on her head, making key save after key save for the first 30 minutes of the match.

After multiple grade-A scoring chances from SAIT, though, #9 Meagan Wiebe finally broke through in the 32nd minute to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead. The goal was Wiebe's team leading 15thof the season.

SAIT continued to attack before halftime, but couldn't extend the lead and went into the break holding on to a slim 1-0 advantage.

In the 60th minute, after a barrage of shots right after half, SAIT scored their second after a corner from #13 Nikki Charlton, with #21 Kaylin Bensler putting the Trojans up 2-0.

SAIT kept up the pace, outshooting UAA 17-1 in the second half, but couldn't put another past the Vikings goalie, who made 20 saves in the game.

Desperate for goals, UAA ramped up their attack in the last 10 minutes, but SAIT allowed just the 1 shot after extending their lead to 2 and came away with the 2-0 shutout win.

The Trojans will be back in action next Saturday, October 14 at Red Deer Polytechnic to face the Queens, and then immediately come home the next day to face off against Lethbridge. UAA will go up against Olds College and Medicine Hat on Saturday and Sunday.
