Kodiaks consolidate ACAC South lead with win in Olds

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks applied pressure from the opening kick, eventually breaking through midway through the first half en route to a 6-0 win over the Olds College Broncos at Richardson Pioneer Field on Saturday.

Kyra Piekema was the player of the game for the Kodiaks (7-0-0) after scoring twice and adding two assists for the Kodiaks, as the CCAA's third-ranked side controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish. Nikki Stahl, Montanna Rousselle, Raeleen Vanden Dungen and Jordy Wright each added singles for Lethbridge, while Samantha Burgis and Jordan Quinn combined to make four saves for the clean sheet.

For the Broncos (2-6-0), Kaia Galuska made seven saves, while Shelbee Stebanuk was named player of the game.

After applying significant pressure early, Stahl broke through for the Kodiaks in the 28th minute to open the scoring, followed almost immediately by Rousselle two minutes; Piekema added an insurance marker right before halftime to put the Kodiaks up 3-0 through 45 minutes.

Lethbridge continued to pour it on in the second half, with Vanden Dungen extending the lead to four in the 50th minute, followed by Piekema's second in the 55th minute before Wright, who entered as a second-half substitute, completed the scoring in the 62nd minute.

From here, the Kodiaks head north to play the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens, while the Broncos will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers; both matches are set to kick off at noon tomorrow.
