SMOOTHER VOYAGE FOR PORTAGE IN HOME LOSS TO LAKELAND

LAC LA BICHE – Sometimes, the comforts of home make a big difference. A day after getting shellacked 10-0 by the Concordia Thunder in Edmonton, the Portage College Voyageurs returned home to the Bold Center Soccer Field Sunday afternoon and put up a much better showing. And while they didn't leave the field with a victory against Lakeland College, the Voyageurs showed a marked improvement before succumbing 3-0 to the Rustlers.

Voyageurs' Player of the Game Brooklyn Haub, who came off the bench in the 24th minute and played a stellar match, was pleased to see the team rebound so well after the Saturday game.

"This was a lot better," she said. "I'd say we definitely learned from our mistakes yesterday and really applied it to the game today and it really showed. I'm really proud of the team."

As is becoming custom, Lizzie McLeod was outstanding the Voyageur net, turning away shot after shot and keeping Portage in the game. Only Megan Hockley, Annika Brown and Rustlers' Player of the Game Sidney Blechinger were able to get the ball past her.

Next up for the Voyageurs is a return trip to Edmonton for a date with NAIT, the squad who spoiled Portage's home opener on Sept. 15. Haub knows her teammates will have to be ready but also that they can carry forward the good things they did in the Lakeland game.

"I think we talked a lot which is really great, and we took a lot of what we learned in practice," she said. "It really showed it in the game and showed how we learned from our coaches, which is really great."
