Rustlers earn first win of the season

After a 0-0 tie with multiple scoring chances missed, the Lakeland Rustlers finally broke their scoreless streak this season.

The women came into Saturday's matchup having gone three straight games without a goal, including their recent tie against the King's Eagles. In the rematch, steady ball movement upfield lead to a Leah Rioux strike taht deflected off of a defender in the Eagles net, which gave the Rustlers their first lead of the season.

In the second half, Lakeland maintained more scoring pressure, leading to a great drive by Sarah Mandeville that gave the team insurance. Hayley Fernandes got the shutout, while Megan Hockley took home Player of the Game honours with two assists. Keeper Jasmine Zalasky was the Eagles POG.

The win moves the Rustlers to 1-2-1 on the year. They travel to Lac La Biche Sunday to play the Portage Voyageurs.
