Rustlers lose big in home opener

A tough opponent awaited Lakeland's women's soccer team in their first home match of the season and the Concordia Thunder showed no mercy Sunday afternoon.

The Rustlers were hoping to show strong against the North Division's best team, but were under constant pressure from the opening position of the matchup. They were also without starting goalkeeper Hayley Fernandes, leaving Madeline Russett in between the pipes. While Russett performed admirably given the circumstance,s she was peperred with numerous chances, as the Thunder won in a romp 9-0.

Venessa Pietramala scored three goals for Concordia and was named Player of the Game, RUssett taking the honour for the home team.

Next for Lakeland is a road matchup with the King's Eagles in Edmonton.
