Trojans sweep Lions in season opener win

Trojans sweep Lions in season opener win

The SAIT Trojans came out with something to prove on Friday night, after a heartbreaking finish to last season at ACAC Championships, losing in penalty kicks after overtime. The Trojans this year have a myriad of fresh faces, while also welcoming back some outstanding veterans from years past.

The Trojans came out strong in the first half, with an early goal from #6, Saige Joseph to open up the flood gates and set the tone for the game. Trojans maintained heavy possession of the ball, keeping up the attack as the play was primarily kept in the Ambrose defending half. Lions defencemen were put to the test against a heavily offensive Trojans squad. At the end of the first half the score was a resounding 7-0, with additional goals from Miriam Kabonesa, Meagan Wiebe, Olivia Depasquale, Kaylin Bensler, Amy Fallows, and a second from Saige Joseph.

The second half mirrored the first with the Trojans getting another quick start after a second goal from Captain, #9 Meagan Wiebe in the 50th minute. The Trojans didn't stop there, with another onslaught of Trojans goals, with the final score coming to 15-0.
