Rodney and Broncos down Queens at RDC

Red Deer, AB - It was even at the half between the RDC Queens and Olds College Broncos, until Broncos forward Felicia Rodney completed a four goal performance, propelling her side to a 5-2 road decision.

After some back-and-forth play, Olds College eventually connected in the 18th minute. Broncos midfielder Mackenzie Mohr sent a speeding Felicia Rodney up the left side. After controlling the ball, the second-year Sports Management student cut to the middle and beat the outstretched hands of Queens goalkeeper Alethea Riemer.

Sixteen minutes later the RDC Queens responded. Bachelor of Science Nursing student Alisha Coules connected with Bronwyn Pfeifle up field. The third-year from Lacombe raced into the offensive zone and found open net on the left side behind Broncos goalkeeper Jewels Hallock.

It was a strong defensive start to the second half until Felicia Rodney put the Broncos up by one in the 51st minute. Paige Whitehead sprung Rodney into the Queens' zone and the forward from Calgary scored low on the left side. Five minutes later, Rodney completed the hat trick with a hard strike from the left to push Olds College ahead 3-1.

The Broncos continued to press. Hailey Pettersen gave the Broncos a three goal cushion with a low shot to the left in the 64th minute. Four minutes later, Felicia Rodney sniped her fourth goal, providing Olds College a 5-1 lead. The Queens didn't quit. In the 84th minute, Abby Grobmeier reduced the Broncos' lead to three with a strike past Hallock, but that was as close as RDC would get. The visiting Broncos wrapped up a 5-2 win, their third consecutive win to begin the season.

Red Deer's Natalie Frenette was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Felicia Rodney received the award for the Broncos, with four goals and one assist.

On Sunday, September 15, the RDC Queens (1-2-0) will host the SAIT Trojans (0-2-0) at 12:00 p.m. at RDC Main Field. The Broncos (3-0-0) will also be in action on Sunday when they host the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (1-2-0) at 12:00 p.m.
