Ooks Take Victory from RDC in Second Game of Weekend Double-Header

The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team hosted the visiting Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Saturday night in the NAIT Arena. The Ooks looked to redeem themselves after losing 4-1 to the Queens Friday night in Red Deer. 

Just over a minute into the first period, the Ooks scored first, with #4 Jessica Englebrecht putting it away with the assists going to #2 Kamryn Aebly and #13 Hanna Paquette. Both teams had lots of offensive chances within the first period and both goalies worked to keep the game within one. The first period also saw both team spend significant time in the penalty box between the two teams.

After the first period, the Ooks led 1-0 over the Queens.

The second period of play started similarly to the first, with the Ooks scoring early. Ooks #27 Cassidy Shandro scored off a beautiful pass from #28 Halle Graham to extend the Ooks lead to 2. With about half the period left to play, the Queens put one past Ooks goalie Kaitlyn Slator, to cut the Ooks lead down to one. Queens' #94 Rylee Mepham scored, assisted by #18 Chloe Belter.

The Ooks led 2-1 against the Queens after the second period.

In the first half of the third period, play was even with many chances by both teams. With just under 10 minutes left in the period, the Ooks scored to take a 3-1 lead. Ooks' #28 Halle Graham scored with the assists going to #8 Tayler Premak and #27 Cassidy Shandro. Not long after the Ooks' third goal, #13 Hanna Paquette scored, and the assists went to #4 Jessica Englebrecht and #23 Julianne Crozier. In the final minutes of the game the Queens looked to pull closer by pulling their goalie. #26 Sidney Kobi took advantage of the goalie pull and scored an empty net goal, with the assist going to #13 Hanna Paquette.

The NAIT Ooks won the game 5-1.
