Queens offence shines in victory over the Rattlers

Red Deer, January 27, 2024 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens backed their 7-0 victory up with a 13-0 win over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Saturday afternoon.

The Queens opened up game two of this doubleheader against the Rattlers with two goals in the first period. Forward Sarah Webster (Bachelor of Kinesiology) scored her first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) goal 16 minutes into the first period. Webster would add another goal in the second period and an assist in the third to finish the game with three points. She was later awarded the player of the game. Defence Kaedence Mollin (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) gave her team a 2-0 lead with five seconds to go in the first period.

RDP would back this up with an outstanding seven goal period in the second to take a 9-0 lead into the final 20 minutes of play.

With a goal in the second period and two more in the third, forward Julie Wagner (Bachelor of Arts in Communication) completed her first ACAC career hat trick. The Polytechnic added three more in the final 20 minutes of play to defeat the Rattlers 13-0 and complete the weekend sweep.

The Rattlers player of the game was awarded to centre Claira Bansley (Bachelor of Commerce) in the loss.

The Queens will be back in action next week on Thursday as they head out on the road to battle with the Olds College Broncos with the puck dropping at 7 pm. As for the Rattlers, they will be back in central Alberta for a two-game road trip against the Broncos starting on Saturday at 7:45 pm.
