Queens score seven in shutout victory over the Rattlers.

Red Deer, January 26, 2024 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens skated away with a 7-0 shutout victory over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Friday night.

The Queens opened the game with three goals on 24 shots in the first 20 minutes of play with forward Annalisa Trieber (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) scoring her first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) goal in her eighth game played which ended up being the game-winner. At the end of the first period, the Polytechnic held the Rattlers to just one shot on goal.

Queens forward Avery Lajeunesse (Bachelor of Education) extended her team's lead to four with the game's only goal in the second period. The Rattlers added five more shots in the middle frame but the Queens continued to outshot Medicine Hat College 42-6.

The Queens would skate away with it in the third period as they added three more goals to shutout the Rattlers 7-0 in the first of two games against each other this weekend. Defence Jessica Bouffard (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) added her second assist of the game in the final 20 minutes on the Polytechnic's sixth goal which was scored by forward Jailyn Bablitz (Bachelor of Education). On top of Bouffard, forward Julie Wagner (Bachelor of Arts in Communication), Lajeunesse and Trieber each had two points in the victory. 

The player of the game from the Rattlers was awarded to goaltender Jessika Charron (General Studies) for her 56-save performance in the team's loss. Queens goaltender Izzy Palumbo (Bachelor of Commerce) stopped all seven shots she faced.

These two teams will be back at it tomorrow at 1 pm for the final game of the doubleheader.
