Broncos head into Christmas break with shutout over Rattlers

The Olds College Broncos are heading into the Christmas break on a winning note, defeating the Medicine Hat College Rattlers 3-0 at the Town of Olds Sportsplex on Friday in a matchup originally scheduled for Nov. 10.

Kaebree Young, Ireland Greenhough, Keera Tiringer and Abbey Kramer scored for the Broncos (4-11-0), while Tessa Knisely pocketed two assists. Cienna Kinghorn made 20 saves to pick up the victory in goal for the Broncos.

Meanwhile, Hayley Whelen made 33 saves for the Rattlers (0-14-0).

Young got the offence started for the Broncos just three minutes in, slapping home a rebound off a Sydney Jack wraparound attempt to give Olds College a 1-0 lead, which they held through the first intermission.

The Broncos struck again early in the second, as Greenhough picked up a loose puck in the corner before walking out to the slot and beating Whelen high for a 2-0 Broncos lead through 40 minutes.

Tiringer iced the game midway through the third, keeping a puck in Rattler territory and walking through the Medicine Hat defence before beating Whelen over the pad extend the lead to three before Kramer added an insurance marker in the dying minutes.

The Broncos will resume play with a doubleheader on home ice against the Lakeland College Rustlers starting January 20 at 3 p.m., while the Rattlers are back on the ice January 19 at 7:45 p.m. as they host the NAIT Ooks

Both games will be available on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
