Rustlers sweep Rattlers in Lloydminster

Lloydminster, AB - The Lakeland College Apex Automation Rustlers and Medicine Hat College Rattlers concluded their two-game weekend in Lloydminster on Saturday, November 18th. The Rustlers defeated Medicine Hat 8-0 on Friday evening and were looking for a sweep to continue their winning ways. Lakeland would defeat Medicine Hat 9-2 on Saturday afternoon. 

The Rustlers would get out of the gate early, just like on Friday night. Kylie Perry would get the puck past Kinlee Fahselt just 1:04 into the game to give the Rustlers an early 1-0 lead. Assists on the goal would go to Janay Williams and Keyra Buziak. The Rustlers would increase their lead late in period one. Darby Robertson would find a loose puck in a goalmouth scramble to put the Rustlers up 2-0. The assists would go to Kaylee Hill and Belle Smith. The Rustlers would take a late penalty in period one with Asha Petrie drawing a body contact penalty. The Rattlers would start the second period with a power-play opportunity. Shots on goal were 12-6 for Lakeland in the opening frame. 

The second period would see the Rattlers cut the deficit to one. At 6:43, Teigan McAuley would let a point shot go through many bodies in front of Rustlers goalie Mackenzie Dojahn to trim the Rustlers lead to 2-1. Lakeland would respond with three goals in the middle frame to increase their lead heading into period three. Calla Kampen would get the third goal of the game for Lakeland, with assists going to Mykayla Pylypow and Mackenzie Stafford. Hailey Carothers would get two goals back to back to end the frame. The first one, at 11:07, has assists drawn by Janay Williams and Kylie Perry. The second goal would be assisted by Madelyn Mann, coming at 13:44 of period two. Shots on goal for period two were 13-7 for Lakeland.

In the third period, the Rustlers would score early with Kylie Perry scoring her second of the game. Assists would go to Hailey Carothers and Janay Williams. Darby Robertson would add two goals in the third. The first goal was assisted by Kaylee Hill and Austyn Eaton, and the second goal was unassisted and scored short-handed. Medicine Hat would score their second goal of the game with Kennedy King beating Rustlers goalie Mackenzie Dojahn. Assists would go to Mya Girard and Claira Bansley. The scoring would be wrapped up by Hailey Carothers scoring her third of the game, with assists going to Kylie Perry and Janay Williams. Shots on goal for the third period would be 16-10 for Lakeland and 41-23 overall.

Players of the game were Mya Girard for the Rattlers and Darby Robertson for the Rustlers.
