Ooks Soar Past Rustlers

On Saturday night, the NAIT Ooks hosted the Lakeland College Rustlers in what turned out to be a fierce battle between these two ACAC heavyweights. The Ooks battled hard and won the game 3-2.

In the dying minutes of the first period, the Rustlers scored first, with Mackenzie Stafford scoring and assists going to Madelyn Mann and Kaylee Hill. The first half finished 1-0 in favour of the Rustlers.

The second period started in a flurry, with the Ooks nearly getting one past Rustlers goalie Mackenzie Dojahn. Minutes later, the Ooks scored two huge goals within 30 seconds of each other. The first goal was scored by Tayler Premak and assisted by Hannah Prinsen and Cassidy Shandro. But Shandro wasn't done yet and claimed her goal immediately after being assisted by Prinsen. The Ooks were also strong on the defensive end, with goalie Aurora Van Wormer making a huge save at the 15th-minute mark. The Rustlers kept the Ooks' defence busy, maintaining solid bursts of possession throughout the period. Despite such solid pressure, the Ooks scored again, with Bre Martin scoring a powerplay goal with 8 minutes to go. Not to be held scoreless in the second, the Rustlers' Darby Robertson slipped one past Van Wormer, ending the second period 3-2 for the Ooks.

The final period saw both teams up the intensity and physicality. Both teams battled for the offensive edge and saw time in the penalty box throughout the period. The Ooks defended their lead and won the game 3-2.
