Trojans shut down Broncos in Olds

The SAIT Trojans made an early lead stand up, defeating the Olds College Broncos 3-0 at the Town of Olds Sportsplex on Thursday.

Pyper Alexander scored twice, while Tamryn Ward also scored for the Trojans (3-6-0), while Chelsea West made 36 saves to register the shutout; Kaylee Vader and Marlee Fong each had two assists.

On the other side, Cienna Kinghorn made 24 saves for the Broncos (2-7-0).

Ward opened the scoring just under five minutes into the opening period, carrying the puck from her own line and sidestepping a Broncos defender before beating Kinghorn shortside to put the Trojans up one. Alexander extended the lead before the midway point of the period, rushing down the right wing and firing a wrist shot over Kinghorn's shoulder to put SAIT up 2-0, a lead they also kept through a scoreless second period.

Alexander then iced the matchup early in the side, finding her own rebound off a shot in the slot and beating Kinghorn over the blocker side to wrap up the scoring.

SAIT and Olds College will face off again at Winsport on Saturday, with opening puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

This matchup will also be available on ACACTV.ca, and on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
