Rustlers Shutout Broncos 2-0

Lloydminster, AB - The Lakeland College Apex Automation Rustlers and Olds College Broncos squared off in the second game of the doubleheader in Lloydminster for a Saturday afternoon matinee game with the Rustlers completing a two game sweep of the weekend, posting a 2-0 shutout.

The first period was a much more balanced period of play than Friday's game. The Broncos came out with more jump and the play was more balanced between both ends for the Rustlers and Broncos. The Broncos would take a minor penalty at the 2:16 mark from Ireland Greenhough but the Rustlers were unable to take advantage on the power play. The Rustlers would draw one more Broncos penalty with 0:23 left in the first period on a tripping call to Paige Budgell, which carried over into the second period of play. Shots on goal were 9-5 for Lakeland as neither team could beat Rustlers goalie Shaye Thompson or Broncos goalie Cienna Kinghorn.

The second period was similar to the first but Lakeland began to gain more time in the offensive zone and put pressure on Kinghorn. The Rustlers would strike three minutes into the period with Claudia Lammers crashing the net and cashing in on a Kinghorn rebound. Assists would go to Alyssa Shaw and Olivia Mann. The Rustlers would take one minor penalty to Mykayla Pylypow but were able to kill off the minor. Shots on goal were 14-6 for the Rustlers.

In the third period, both teams would get into penalty trouble as the Broncos would take three minors and the Rustlers would take two. The penalty killing units for Lakeland and Olds would deny any opportunities on the man advantages. Lakeland would get their second of the game four minutes into the third period. Hailey Carothers would take a cross ice pass from Darby Robertson on a two on one and bury the puck. This would be all the scoring the Rustlers would need as they would wrap things up in the third period with a 2-0 victory. Shots on goal in the third were 11-5 for Lakeland and ended up 34-16 overall for the game.

Players of the game for the Broncos would be Caybri DeJong and for the Rustlers would be Shaye Thompson.
