Ooks Soar Over Rattlers

Edmonton, AB - On Friday night the NAIT Ooks' women's hockey team faced off against the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers in the first game of the two game weekend series. The Ooks' wore pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness month and the home team Ooks won the game 4-0.

The first period between the Ooks and Rattlers had a lot of back and forth. The Ooks were the first to get on the scoreboard with Cassidy Shandro scoring after receiving a pass from Taylor Premak. The Ooks scored again with Cheyenna Harden putting it away. The Rattlers' goalie Hayley Whelan stood solid in the net making 19 saves. After the first 20 minutes the Ooks led 2-0.

The second period of play between the Ooks and Rattlers was a battle with both teams serving time in the box within the first five minutes. Ooks' Bre Martin scored on the power play putting the puck over Whelan's shoulder pad with the assists going to Abigail Robar and Julianne Crozier. There was lots of power play time seen by the fans, with both teams serving serval penalties. Taylor Premak from the Ooks scored the fourth goal for her team with an assist going to Cassidy Shandro. The Ooks led 4-0 after the second period.

Play between the Ooks and Rattlers continued to be physical into the third period. Ooks' goalie Aurora Van Wormer stood solid in net making 14 saves throughout the night.  Rattlers' Whelan made an astounding 47 saves throughout the night to keep the game close. No goals were scored by either team, but lots of chances were had. The Ooks won the game 4-0 over the Rattlers.

The players of the game were number 27, Cassidy Shandro from the Ooks and number 30, Hayley Whelan from the Rattlers.
