NAIT Ooks Defeat SAIT Trojans

Calgary, October 14, 2023 – NAIT 6 at SAIT 1

The SAIT Trojans women's hockey team lost to the NAIT Ooks 6-1 on Saturday, pushing their record to 2-2 and giving them a 1-2 record against NAIT on the year.

With the win, NAIT improved to 3-1.

SAIT played hard, but a tough start to the second period ultimately did them in, as they gave up three goals at 18:52, 15:03, and 14:42 of the second to go down 4-1.

The game opened with two SAIT penalties in the first 10 minutes, but the Trojans managed to kill both of them off and were rewarded with their own powerplay at 10:13. #4 Tereza Roulette capitalized on the advantage, scoring to give SAIT the 1-0 lead with the assists going to #13 Emmy McKinnon and #24 Kaylan Easson.

NAIT would answer back with a powerplay goal of their own to tie the game 1-1 with a minute left in the first, which would remain the score at the end of the period.

The Trojans couldn't start the second period off right, giving up three in the first six minutes, and ended up being down 5-1 after two periods.

A hard fought third period saw SAIT get two powerplay opportunities, one for four minutes, but the Trojans couldn't put one past NAIT's goalie. The Ooks added another to their lead at 16:24, once again on the powerplay, and the game would end with a final score of 6-1 for NAIT.

SAIT will play a home and home against Red Deer Polytechnic next weekend, travelling to Red Deer for a game Friday night before coming home to face off again Saturday. A 2-0 weekend would give them a 4-2 record for the season.
