Ooks Win Home Opener

The NAIT Ooks women's hockey hosted the SAIT Trojans for their home opener on Friday October 13th. The Ooks looked to come out on top in front of their home crowd and ended up winning 2-0.

In the first period great chances were had for the Ooks, having 2 power play opportunities. The Ooks weren't able to capitalize on either of these chances, however they had the most time in the Trojans zone, with Trojans' goalie, Kaylin Schellenberg, making 16 saves against the Ooks. Ooks' goalie, Aurora Van Wormer saved all 4 shots she faced from the Trojans. No goals were scored in the first period leaving the score tied at 0. 

In the second period the Ooks continued to push the pace against the Trojans. Chances were had by both teams. The Trojans had a great opportunity as they passed the puck out front, but the Ooks defence was able to tie them up. Just under halfway through the second period the Ooks' Charlieze Sallis scored, with assists from Cheyenna Harden and Cassidy Shandro. After the second period the Ooks lead 1-0 over the Trojans. 

In the third period the Trojans came out looking to tie the score up. With 1:41 left in the game the Trojans called a timeout and pulled their goalie to have an extra player in an effort to tie the game. The Ooks were able to take advantage of the empty net with Cassidy Shandro scoring on the empty net, with the assists going to Cheyenna Harden and Julianne Crozier. The Ooks won the game 2-0.

The players of the game were number 15, Charlieze Sallis from the Ooks and number 30, Kaylin Schellenberg from the Trojans.
