Trojans win in thrilling overtime game against the NAIT Ooks

In an electrifying SAIT Trojans Women's Hockey Home Opener, fans were treated to an intense battle against the NAIT Ooks Women's Hockey team that ended with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory for the Trojans. The star of the evening was unquestionably Trojans goaltender #1, Madison Fox, who put on a dazzling display of goaltending, facing an astounding 44 shots from the relentless Ooks offense. Her incredible performance earned her well-deserved Player of the Game honors for SAIT.

The game started with a bang as Trojans #10, Elisa Erhardt, found the back of the net at 8:52 in the first period, setting the tone for an exciting matchup. However, the Ooks responded swiftly, with #18, Bre Martin, scoring at 4:05 to level the playing field. The second period saw the Ooks take the lead, courtesy of a power-play goal by #27, Cassidy Shandro, at 9:38, putting them ahead 2-1 heading into the third period. The Trojans, led by their determined captain #19, Pyper Alexander, managed to tie the game at 2-2 with a crucial goal at 4:47 in the third period, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

As the tension mounted, it was #13, Emily McKinnon, who emerged as the hero for the Trojans in overtime, scoring the game-winning goal that sent the SAIT faithful into a euphoric celebration. Madison Fox's incredible performance between the pipes ensured the Trojans held on to their lead, and she rightfully earned the Player of the Game honors for her outstanding contribution. On the NAIT Ooks' side, #5, Hannah Prinsen, was recognized as their Player of the Game for her commendable effort in a closely contested matchup. This thrilling season opener showcased the resilience and determination of both teams, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead for women's collegiate hockey.
