Ooks Lose at Home to Lethbridge

Friday nights action saw the visiting Lethbridge Kodiaks take on the NAIT Ooks. With the Ooks fighting for the final playoff spot and only a few games remaining, this looked like a must win for the Ooks. The Kodiaks came out of the gate strong with a 14-4 run lead by #11 Hannah Helton and #9 Courtney Deemter. Ooks #4 Mikah Reed was able to hit back-to-back 3-pointers to try keep the Ooks in it early, but the Kodiaks kept their foot on the gas. Ooks #9 Abigail Payne was able to hit a late 3-pointer to help keep the score close after the 1st quarter.

The Kodiaks lead 21-17 after the 1st quarter.

The Kodiaks came strong to start the 2nd and were able to push their lead. After the Kodiaks coach received a technical foul, the Ooks hoped to swing the momentum in their favour. After cutting the lead back down to six with under five minutes left in the half, the Ooks were right where they wanted to be. The Kodiaks were able to maintain the swing in momentum and keep their lead heading into halftime.

The Kodiaks threw the first punch coming out pushing the lead to double digits. But the Ooks were able to answer back cutting the lead to three with under five minutes left in the quarter. The Kodiaks were able to withstand the Ooks run by pushing their lead back to double digits. The Kodiaks were able to gain their biggest lead of the game heading into the final ten minutes.

The Kodiaks lead 49-36 after the 3rd quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Kodiaks start to pull away. They were able to increase their leas with baskets from #9 Courtney Deemter and #4 Madison Olsen. The Kodiaks were able to maintain their lead and secure the road victory.

The Kodiaks won 62-44.
