Women's Basketball Huskies top Wolves in pivotal clash

Fort McMurray, Alta. (January 26, 2024) - Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves 42 Keyano Huskies 73

The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team started hot and didn't let up as they rolled to a 73-42 win against the visiting Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves Friday at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta. 

After taking the opening quarter 21-9, the Huskies took a 20-point lead at the half, increased the lead to 26 after three quarters, and put the finishing touches on the 31-point victory in the fourth quarter. 

Kaylynn Tucker led the home side with 17 points, joined in double digits by Danika Cadieux's 14-point effort, a 12-spot from Jaylynn Twin, and 10 from Maja Besic. 

Raylene Badger led the Wolves with nine points ,one ahead of teammate Paige Snyder. Makayla Porteous and Abby Crown each finished with seven points in the contest. 

The Huskies shot 38.9% (28-for-72) from the field, including 27.8% (5-for-18) from the three-point line. They also made 12 free throws in the match. On the visitiors side, the Wolves shot 39.1% (18-for-46) from the field, making a trio of three-point shots in the match. In four trips to the free throw line, they made good on three of those shots. 

The two teams will face each other in a rematch Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
