Women's Basketball Huskies rise to defeat NWP Wolves at home

Fort McMurray, Alta. (January 27, 2024) - Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves 37 Keyano Huskies 64

The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team earned their first weekend sweep of the season in strong fashion Saturday, downing the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves by a 64-37 score on the court at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.

After a low-scoring first quarter had the Wolves ahead 8-7, the Huskies won the second quarter 25-12 to lead by 12 at the half. A 12-6 third quarter and 20-11 fourth 
Kaylynn Tucker had her 15th double-digit perfromance of the season, tallying 24 points. Emma Tomchuk was the only other Huskies player in double digits with 10 points on the day. Casey Gorieu and Maja Besic each finished with nine while Danika Cadieux had eight. 

For the Wolves, Raylene Badger led her side with 11 points in the contest. Alyssa Gallant and Abby Crown each finished with eight. 

Overall, the Huskies shot 32.8% (22-for-67) from the field, making a trio of three-point shots. They made good on 73.9% of their free throw attempts, adding 17 points on 23 attempts. The Wolves shot 27.7% (13-for-47) from the field, making four three-point shots. They also made seven free throws on 10 attempts.
