SAIT defeats MHC

Calgary, AB - Saturday, Jan. 27: MHC Rattlers 59 at SAIT Trojans 76

 

The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team beat the MHC Rattlers again on Saturday, this time by a final score of 76-59.

 

It was a must win game for the Trojans who are still battling for a playoff spot with a record of 7-9 after two straight victories over the Rattlers. Medicine Hat now sits at 2-14 on the season.

 

Anegor Wol led the way for SAIT, dropping a game high 30 points on 14-21 shooting to go along with six boards, two assists and two steals. Brook Baker added 19 points of her own, and Macy Mulholland wasn't far behind with 13.

 

The Trojans had trouble scoring to start the game, adding just 14 points in the first quarter. Of the 14, Wol scored 10, holding the Trojans within striking distance heading into the second.

 

SAIT's scoring touch arrived after the short break, as they added a game high 25 in the quarter led by Baker and Wol who each put 9 on the board. The Trojans defense forced 10 turnovers in the frame, holding the Rattlers to just 13 shots. Going into the half, SAIT led 39-35.

 

With their lockdown defense continuing, the Trojans only allowed 24 points in the final 20 minutes. Baker and Mulholland took over in the third, scoring 16 of SAIT's 19 points in the quarter and giving them a comfortable 13 point lead heading into the final 10.

 

Anegor Wol scored another 10 in the fourth to give her 30 points, as the Trojans came away with the 76-59 win.

 

The Trojans will play back to back against Lethbridge next weekend in two big games against the 12-3 Kodiaks.

 

Medicine Hat will head to Ambrose University to play the Lions on Friday.
