Kodiaks confound Broncos in Olds

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks started their weekend road trip on the right foot, defeating the Olds College Broncos 83-45 at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

Hannah Helton paced the attack for Lethbridge College (11-3), leading all scorers with 22 points while also adding six rebounds and three steals. Tylee Perry added 19 points to go with six rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Madison Barfuss posted 15 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists.

For the Broncos (1-14), Meghan Swartz posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds along with three assists, while Sharlese Weigum and Nicole Farkas each had nine points and six rebounds, with Weigum also adding four steals.

Neither team let the other get too comfortable early on, as the opening quarter ended with the teams tied 16-16. However, the turning point came early in the second quarter as the Kodiaks went on an 11-0 run spanning the final 7:05 to take a 31-20 lead into halftime. The Broncos largely stayed within striking distance for a majority of the third quarter, only for a 13-0 Kodiaks run covering the final 3:57 to extend Lethbridge's lead to 61-38 heading to the fourth.

The Broncos and Kodiaks will complete their weekend doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Olds; the matchup will be available on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
