Lions leap past Broncos to begin home-and-home

The Ambrose University Lions used a big second quarter to establish control en route to a 74-50 victory over the Olds College Broncos at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

Nya Gach had a double-double for the Lions (6-7) with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists, while Tegan McArthur also had 15 points and added six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Ariana Dela Paz also played a significant role off the bench with 10 points and four assists for the Lions, who moved into a tie for fourth in the ACAC South with the win.

For the Broncos (1-12), Caitlin Paul led all scorers with 16 points, while Nicole Farkas had a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, and Sharlese Weigum finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.

Ambrose jumped out to an early 14-4 lead, only for the Broncos to answer with a 12-0 run as the first quarter ended at a 16-16 stalemate. However, the Lions would take hold of the game from there, with a 15-1 run to go up 36-19 en route to a 43-26 halftime lead, which they further built into a 61-35 advantage heading into the fourth.   

The Lions and Broncos wrap up their weekend home-and-home tomorrow in Calgary at 6 p.m.; the matchup will be streamed on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
