Ooks Show Offense and Win at Home Against the Vikings

On Friday night the NAIT Ooks women's Basketball team took on the Augustana Vikings at the NAIT gymnasium.

In the first quarter both teams displayed outstanding defense holding the score at 0-0 until three and a half minutes into the game.  Finally the Ooks broke through the Vikings defence and number thirteen Rory Vandermeer made a fantastic reverse layup launching the Ooks offence. Later in the quater, the Vikings offence seemed to have found their groove and the Ooks found their lead in jeopardy. Vikings offence was a group effort as the team continued to drive to the net However, as their offence began to gain momentum their defense struggled.

Ooks led the game 12-8 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Vikings came out with a fire and managed to tie the game up for the first time. Both teams defence was effectively shutting out the other, making the game neck and neck. Yet again the Ooks offence was able to find the gaps in the Vikings systems and start to grow their lead with great drives from Laila Wright. But the Ooks defence wasn't holding up against the Vikings constant drives to the net and the Vikings managed to take the lead for the very first time with a fantastic move and drive by Tayah Fiveland. But the Ooks refused to let the lead go and battled back with incredible outside shooting from Kalena Richardson taking back the lead.

The game was tied 26-26 going into the second half.

In the third quarter the Ooks quickly established their lead with incredible offense from number thirteen Rory Vandermeer. The Ooks were dominating defensively continually shut down the Vikings constant attempts to drive low in the key. Nonetheless the Vikings continued to drive and great drives from Tayah Fiveland kept the Ooks from getting to far from the Vikings.

Ooks led the game 46-36 after the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Ooks continued to hold their lead with great offensive plays and drive from number thirteen Rory Vandermeer as the Vikings were losing their momentum and struggled to generate offensive ball movement. Ooks held their lead and won the game.
