Women's Basketball Huskies salvage split with Ooks

Fort McMurray, Alta. (January 13, 2024) - NAIT Ooks 57 Keyano Huskies 64

The Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team roared back on the home court Saturday, topping the NAIT Ooks 64-57 to salvage a weekend split with their North Division foes at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.

After narrowly winning the first quarter by a 14-13 margin, the Huskies doubled their lead with a 19-18 second quarter. The Huskies took charge in the third quarter with a 21-12 frame to build an 11-point advantage, which was enough to withstand a comeback effort in the fourth quarter by the visiting Ooks.

Kaylynn Tucker led the Huskies with 27 points and was joined in the double-digit performances by Jaylynn Twin and Danika Cadieux, who each scored 11 points. Mikah Reed's 13 points led a quartet of Ooks in double digits on the day with Payton Neilson, Rory Vandermeer, and Abi Payne all scoring 10 each.

The Huskies will now refocus to challenge the Lakeland Rustlers on the road while the Ooks prepare for a home-and-home series with the Augustana Vikings.
