Rattlers reap weekend sweep in Olds

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers completed a weekend sweep on the road, defeating the Olds College Broncos 75-42 at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Breanna O'Connor led all scorers with 20 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Jaida Gold turned in 12 points to go with eight rebounds for the Rattlers (2-10); Jordyn Knight and Brynn Bremner added 10 apiece.

For the Broncos (1-11), Sharlese Weigum posted a double-double with 13 point and 13 rebounds, while Caitlin Paul turned in 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Nicole Farkas posted seven points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams started out relatively tight in the matchup, but the Rattlers eventually stretched out a 21-10 lead through the opening 10 minutes of play before taking a 36-19 lead into halftime. The third quarter is where the Rattlers made their mark on the matchup as they stretched the lead to 56-27 going into the fourth.

Next up, the Rattlers will head home to take on the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Friday at 6 p.m., which is also when the Broncos will host the Ambrose University Lions; both games will be available on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
