Ambrose defeats SAIT

Calgary, Alta. – Saturday, Jan. 13: Ambrose University Lions 80 at SAIT Trojans 75

The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team narrowly fell to the Ambrose University Lions on Saturday by a final score of 80-75. Both teams now sit at 5-7 on the season, battling for a spot in the playoffs.

Anegor Wol led the Trojans with 22 points, Brook Baker added 18, and Ava Kearl chipped in 14 off the bench. New guard Meg Stagoll contributed eight assists.

The Lions came out hot after yesterday's two-point loss to the Trojans, scoring the first 13 points of the game. That lead didn't last long, though, as the advantage was only two at the end of the first quarter. Ava Kearl helped bring the game back within reach with her team leading seven points in the frame.

SAIT held Ambrose to just four made field goals in the second, limiting them to 13 points in the quarter. Anegor Wol scored 6 of the Trojans' 17 points to give them a two-point lead heading into halftime.

It was more of the same from Wol in the third, as she shot 3-4 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line for 10 points. The Lions offence came back alive, as they scored 19. Heading into the final 10 minutes, SAIT had a narrow five-point lead.

Ambrose's starting five carried them to victory in the fourth, combining for 23 of the Lion's 25 in the quarter. SAIT could only muster 15 as the Lions ended up with the five-point win.

The Trojans will head to St. Mary's University to face the lightning next Friday before hosting them on Saturday.

Ambrose will play at Old's College on Friday and host them the next day.
