Briercrest at SAIT

Calgary, Alberta – Friday, November 24, 2023: BC Clippers 63 at SAIT Trojans 66

The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team won a back-and-forth battle against the Briercrest Clippers on Friday night thanks #10 Anegor Wol's 10 fourth quarter points. The Trojans outscored the Clippers by four in the final quarter to take the win 66-63.

SAIT sits at 3-6 on the season following the win, and BC suffered just their second loss and are now 6-2.

#0 Brook Baker, #7 Macy Mulholland and #10 Anegor Wol led the way for the Trojans, scoring 17, 19 and 16 points respectively. The Trojans held the Clippers to just 33.8% shooting on the night.

SAIT put up a game high 23 points in the first quarter, led by #7 Macy Mulholland who shot 3/7 for seven points of her own. BC shot well, too, but with five turnovers could only muster 19 in the quarter to give SAIT a four-point lead after 10 minutes.

The scoring slowed down in the second, where the teams combined to shoot 7/33 and 0/10 from three. The Trojans put up 13 to the Clippers 12 and had a five-point lead at halftime.

BC came out of the break determined on defence, only allowing SAIT 11 points and forcing 13 turnovers in the quarter. The Trojans battled too, though, causing nine Clippers' turnovers and holding BC to 17.

Heading into the final ten minutes, SAIT trailed by 1.

In the final frame, #10 Anegor Wol completely took over. Down 52-50, Wol scored eight straight Trojans points to give them a 58-56 lead, then blocked a layup to stay up two with three minutes to go. #7 Macy Mulholland gave SAIT four more late, and the Trojans hit clutch free throws to take the win.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow, as the Trojans will look to win their fourth of their last five games and go into the winter break feeling good.
