Thunder control all elements in taking out Broncos

The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder took control midway through the first quarter and didn't let up, defeating the Olds College Broncos 88-49 at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Chloe DeKlerk came close to a triple-double for the Thunder (4-6) with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists; Rachel Harvey chipped in with 19 points of her own to go with seven rebounds, while Jenna Rinsky added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.

For the Broncos (1-7), Caitlin Paul scored 15 points, four assists and three steals, while Nicole Farkas added 10 points and five rebounds; Sway McMane chipped in with six points and two steals.

The Thunder didn't trail over the course of the afternoon, as they establshed themselves midway through the first quarter to carve out a 26-10 lead through the opening 10 minutes, then extended their advantage to 47-17 going into halftime, led by DeKlerk's 12 points.

It was a relatively similar story in the second half as the Thunder kept charging forward to take a comfortable 72-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

With the win, the Thunder are now into their Christmas break, while the Broncos will host the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Friday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.; both matchups will be available on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
