Olds vs. SAIT

Calgary, Alta. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023: Olds College Broncos 45 at SAIT Trojans 66

The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team earned their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating the Olds College Broncos 66-45. With the win, the Trojans now own a 1-5 record as they look to bounce back from a rough start to the year.

The first quarter was a tight defensive battle. Neither team shot over 40%, but SAIT forced turnover after turnover and capitalized quickly, resulting in a 17-10 lead after the first 10 minutes.

After the quick break, SAIT looked like a whole new team, playing a tight press on defense that forced Olds to scramble. The pressure caused more turnovers, and with the Trojans finding their shot, SAIT dominated the second quarter. Seven different Trojans chipped in points as they won the quarter 26-8.

At half, the Trojans led 43-18.

Olds College didn't go down without a fight, as they won the second half by four points. They tightened up on defense – SAIT was held to just 23 points in the second half – but they could never quite find their shot as they continued to have a hard time scoring.

The two sides both scored 13 in the third. #16 Lucia Munroe, who ended up as SAIT's player of the game, led the way for the Trojans with five in the quarter.

The Broncos continued playing tough defense all the way to the end, holding SAIT to 10 in the fourth, but it was not enough as SAIT took home the win by a score of 66-45.

The Trojans will be back in action next Friday, Nov. 17 against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves, looking to start a winning streak to get them back into contention.
