Clippers steady performance guides them to win over Huskies

Fort McMurray, Alta. (November 4, 2023) - Briercrest College Clippers 75 Keyano Huskies 55

A steady performance from the Briercrest College Clippers Women's Basketball team powered them to a Saturday night 75-55 win against the Keyano College Huskies. 

The Clippers won each of the four quarters to gradually build their lead throughout the game. They won the opening quarter 20-14, edged the Huskies 17-15 in the second quarter, and then won the second half quarters by five and seven-point margins, respectively. 

As the visiting swquad, the Clippers shot 45.3 percent (29-for-64) from the field, making good on one three-point shot. They made good on 16 of 26 free throw attempts. Brooklyn Martens led the Clippers with 22 points, while Amber Fichtnerwas next closest with 17. Hope Jordens rounded out a trio of double-digit scorers with 10 points off the bench. 

On the Huskies' side of the ball, they shot 31.4 percent (16-for-51) from the field, sinking two three-point shots. They sank 21 of 29 free throws throughout the game. Kaylynn Tucker led the Huskies with 12 points, one ahead of Lameez Khan's 11 and two ahead of Emma Tomchuk's 10. Jaylynn Twin led all bench scorers on the Huskies with nine points. 

The Huskies will now enjoy a bye week before making their first venture of the season to the South Division, facing off against the Ambrose University Lions and Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The Clippers will return to ACAC action on November 17, welcoming the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings to Caronport, Sask.
