Lions Spoil Rattlers Home Opener

The Rattlers hosted the Ambrose Lions on what was the home opener for the 2023/24 season for the Women's Basketball team. The stands were full and ready for the start of a highly anticipated season. The Rattlers came out slow as the Lions got off on the front foot leading to an early 11-3 lead. The Lions kept the momentum going leading to a first quarter lead of 23-7. The second quarter was more of the same as Ambrose blitzed the Rattlers on route to a 15-5 2nd quarter and a 38-12 lead after 20 minutes.

The second half was a change of pace for the Rattlers as they were more competitive and fought back to win the second half by 1 point. The third quarter came and went with the Rattlers losing that quarter 16-12. The 4th quarter was the best for the Rattlers as they won that quarter 14-11 and were led by Breanna O'Connor who had 7 points and 2 steals in the quarter and 13 points overall. In the end though the Lions were too much for the Rattlers as they came away with a 65-38 win. The Lions improve to 1-0 while the Rattlers fall to 0-1.

The Tiki Press Player of the Game for the Rattlers was Breanna O'Connor and for the Lions was Tegan McArthur. The Rattlers next action is a home-and-home series with the St. Mary's Lighting coming to the Hat Friday night and return matchup in Calgary on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Lions have their own home-and-home series with Lethbridge next weekend.
