Rustlers begin title chase with home win

Women's basketball teased the crowd for the first half of a potential barn burner, before showcasing dominace their home debut.

The Rustlers hosted top North Division rival Concordia in the season opener, in what was shaping out to be a tone setter for the rest of the year. Lakeland had a slow start offensively, with the Thunder winning the opening quarter 22-16. They responded early in the 2nd, but still trailed 39-37 at the half.

In the 3rd, the Rustlers began to shut the door defensively, forcing the Thunder into costly turnovers and limiting their shot attempts. In total, Concordia scored just 16 2nd half points in the 78-55 Lakeland victory.

Missy Nuku and Rachel Harvey won POG for the home and away team respectively.

The rematch takes place at 6:00 PM in Edmonton tomorrow night.
