WBB| Kodiaks Secure Victory in Final Home Game of The Season as They Take University of Alberta Augustana Vikings

February 10, 2023- The Kodiaks took on the UAA Vikings in their final home game of the season with both teams riding a 2-game win streak, with Lethbridge looking to close out on a good note as the league gears up for playoffs.

Lethbridge got the early go-ahead in the quarter as they were able to generate strong offense and develop a strong lead with a full team effort and Kodiaks Tylee Leavitt led the charge as she picked up 8 points and rebounds to assist the Kodiaks dominant 1st quarter leading 26-12 over the Vikings through 10 minutes of play.

The Kodiaks started off the 2nd quarter strong once again, but they were not able to maintain the edge the whole quarter as they began to struggle with fouls which gave the Vikings the opportunity to gain some ground on the Kodiaks, despite being outscored by the Vikings in the quarter, Lethbridge was able to maintain their lead heading into half-time with a 39-31 lead.

Augustana knew that if they wanted a chance to take control of the game, it would have to be in the 2nd half and the Vikings did exactly what they had planned as they were able to close the gap between them and the Kodiaks with strong likes of Vikings #4 Taya Fiveland and #10 Kamryn De klerk combing for 10 points. However, in the dying minutes of the quarter, the Kodiaks were able to get things rolling again which allowed them to extend their lead once again to keep the Vikings back as Lethbridge stayed on top heading into the 4th quarter with a 62-50 lead.

With only 1 quarter remaining, the Kodiaks just had to stay strong on defense and protect their lead. Augustana fought to try and find a way to make a comeback but fell short with Lethbridge staying strong on their feet allowing them time to control the final minutes of the game which ultimately led to the Kodiaks increasing their win streak to 3 after taking down the Vikings 81-63.
