Rustlers Advance to the Finals over the Trojans

The Lakeland Rustlers take on the SAIT Polytech Trojans tonight in the semi-final game at 6 pm hosted by Lakeland College.

The Rustlers come off a slow start, only scoring 11 points in the first quarter. Hailey Somers, who plays high-intensity offence and defence for the Rustlers, got into early foul trouble, putting more pressure on the Rustlers. The Trojans were using a full-court press in the first quarter, which limited Lakeland's shot clock time. The Trojans were led by #11 Anegor Wol scoring 6 points. The Rustlers trailed at the end of the first quarter, 11-18.

Entering the second quarter, the Rustlers went on a run led by #5 Tori Dugan to lessen the lead to three points, 17-20. The Trojans were struggling to score early in the second, causing Lakeland to take the lead halfway through the quarter, 22-20. The Rustlers and Trojans went back and forth nearing the end of the quarter, with the Rustlers leading by only 1 point in the last minute. The Trojans make a three-pointer right at the end of the quarter, 24-25.

Entering into the third quarter, the Rustlers and Trojans make back-to-back three-pointers, keeping the game at a one-point deficit. Alana Olson off the Rustlers putting in work offensively and defensively in the third quarter and making some big plays to help the Rustlers take the lead 3 minutes into the third quarter. The Trojans were getting into foul trouble early, taking out a few of their starters, putting them in an offensive deficit. The Rustlers hustled on offence and defence, taking a 12 point lead in the last 3 minutes of the third quarter, holding the Trojans to only 5 points. The Rustlers maintained a comfortable lead of 16 points, 46-30.

The Rustlers were hustling in the fourth quarter, playing tight defence and executing on offence. The Rustlers were playing a solid passing game and getting many open looks to take a strong lead of 20 points over the Trojans. The Trojans are struggling to get their momentum back and with their outside shots, but still hustling on defence in hopes to slow down the Rustlers and close in on the lead. However, the Rustlers remained on top and undefeated, with a final score of 60-41.

The game players were #9 Alana Olson off of the Lakeland Rustlers and #11 Anegor Wol off the SAIT Trojans. The Rustlers will compete in the gold medal match tomorrow at 8 pm at Lakeland College.
