Lions Fall to Visiting Queens

Lions Fall to Visiting Queens

A short bench led to the Lions demise as, while they kept the game close till halftime, they ran out of steam to finish the game.  Playing with only 1 sub, the Lions challenged Red Deer to a fast paced up and down game.

To start the game, the Lions stayed right with the Queens as after the first quarter they were only down 3.   Sarah Burnell played a really strong opening quarter for the Lions scoring 6 of her team high 13 points.   The Lions did a great job on defense throughout the entire first half, limiting Red Deer's fast break opportunities as well as their open looks.

The 3rd quarter is where Red Deer really asserted their dominance and showed why they are in the hunt for a playoff spot.  Their depth and skill took over the game when Ambrose started to get tired.   The Player of the Game for the Queens was Harneet Sidhu as she nearly picked up a double-double with 16 points and 9 assists.

The Lions will look for revenge as the two teams' play their rematch tomorrow night in Red Deer at 6:00pm.
