SAIT beat Lions for season's first win

CALGARY, ALTA., (Nov. 1, 2019) - Win No. 1 is in the books for the SAIT Trojans women's basketball team.

After starting the season 0-2, the Trojans simply outworked the visiting Ambrose University Lions in their 63-56 victory Friday night at SAIT's Campus Centre.

"They were the hardest working team tonight," said Trojans head coach Bir Parmar. "We used last week's effort, which was pretty lackadaisical, as motivation this week in practice. If anything, the result today should serve as more motivation going forward."

SAIT moves to 1-2 on the season, while Ambrose falls to 0-4.

The Trojans used a 9-2 run to start the game off well. By the end of the first quarter, SAIT's lead was 16-12. By half, SAIT's lead had grown to six, 35-29, with 11 of those points coming from Lauren Bailey (4th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration).

In the second half, SAIT continued to work hard, hitting the floor for loose balls, grabbing offensive rebounds and hustling on the defensive end.

Leading the charge for the Trojans was Richina Foggo (4th year, Calgary, Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles), who was named her team's Player of the Game after finishing the game with seven points, 14 rebounds and three steals.

"Effort is not an issue with her," praised Parmar. "You'd think her age might slow her down, but at practice she's the one leading the way. I don't know how I could have taken her off the floor tonight."

SAIT will have the rest of the weekend off before returning to play next Friday night at host Medicine Hat College.

"Our division is a battle; there are no gimmes any given night," Parmar finished. "We have to show up every night ready to play, and the results will take care of themselves."
