Kings clips Eagles in five-set quarterfinal

The CCAA's top-ranked team faced a stiff challenge right off the bat, as the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings survived a gruelling five-set match to defeat The King's University Eagles (19-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12) in an ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship quarterfinal in Olds.

With the victory, the Kings will now face off with the NAIT Ooks in the first semifinal tomorrow at 6 p.m., while the Eagles will battle the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in the first consolation matchup at 1 p.m.

ACAC South All-Conference outside Noah Carlson turned in a monster performance with 29 points (24 kills, five blocks) and four digs, while Colby Nemeth was a menace from the service line as seven of his 15 points were on aces. To round out the Kings' offensive efforts, Zach Neufeld posted 12 kills and a dig for 13 points to go with six digs, with everyone directed by Tom Wass and his 49 assists.

For the Eagles, ACAC North All-Conference outside Kaiden Aceron posted a team-high 20 points (16 kills, two aces, two blocks) to go with five digs, while Tanner Piers had 14 points (13 kills, one ace) and three digs, and ACAC North All-Conference middle Carter Roflik added eight points on five kills and three aces.
