Rustlers defeat Ooks to snap losing streak

Lakeland men's volleyball needed a win Saturday, particularly aginst a top opponent, and they delivered on Club Volleyball Night.

Th Rustlers came into the match having lost in Edmonton the night before to the Ooks. The first set was a classic, back-and-forth battle, with both teams taking huge swings in the mmiddle and on the outside. A couple late errors from the home team, plus some physical play from the visitors gave NAIT the opening set 26-24.

The second was simliar to the first, with both teams displaying high level play. Lakeland managed to pull away and build a four-point lead, but the Ooks fought off four set points to even the score. However, the Rustlers responded and some strong swinging got them the set at 27-25.

The third was a dominant showing from Lakeland, winning 25-17, before things reverted to the norm in the fourth. NAIT was ahead 18-16, Lakeland was able to pull ahead and hang on to win 25-22.

Brock Tomyn won Player of the Game with 12 kills, 3 aces and a block. Shea McIntre was the POG for NAIT with 16 kills and 2 aces.

The win improves the Rustlers to 9-6, with four matches left to play. This weekend, they host the NWP Wolves, matches times are scheduled for 8:00 PM Friday and 3:00 PM Saturday.
