Broncos battle back for five-set win over Vikings

The Olds College Broncos stepped up and defended home court, coming back from two sets down to defeat the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings 3-2 (26-28, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-13) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday night.

The ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship hosts were led by a 16-point performance from Aidyn Phillips (12 kills, two aces, two blocks) paired with six digs, while Matheus Franca added 13 points of his own (nine kills, four blocks) to go with a match-high 16 digs, and Carter Sinclair added seven points (five kills and two blocks) in three sets of competition for the Broncos (7-5).

For the Vikings (0-12), Devon Nazarchuk scored a match-high 20 points (16 kills, two aces, two blocks) to go with 11 digs, while Boris Kuljanin added a match-high 19 kills to go with six digs. Caelum Hartman was busy all over the court for Augustana, as he finished with 37 assists while also posting a team-best 15 digs.

Next up, the Broncos begin a pivotal home-and-home with the Ambrose University Lions in Calgary, while the Vikings head back to Camrose to face off with the NAIT Ooks; both matchups are scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on ACACTV.ca, as well as on TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
