MVB| Kodiaks Defeat Red Deer Kings in a 2-0 Weekend

November 24, 2023. The Kings started strong, taking an early lead, but the Kodiaks matched them point for point. As the set progressed, the Kodiaks managed to tie the score, prompting a timeout from the Kings. In a see-saw battle, the Kodiaks surged ahead, only for the Kings to level the game again. Ben St. Pierre (#5) of the Kodiaks showcased exceptional skills with 1 dig and 12 assists, while Zachary Neufeld (#1) of the Kings contributed 1 dig and 3 kills. The Kodiaks clinched the set with a narrow 26-24 victory.

The Kings aimed to bounce back in the second set, gaining a small lead early on. However, the Kodiaks stayed hot on their heels, keeping the point difference minimal. Spencer Purdie (#17) of the Kings delivered a standout performance with 4 kills, but Nolan Mose (#14) of the Kodiaks countered with 2 digs and 7 kills. The Kings called a timeout as the Kodiaks threatened to close the gap. In a closely contested set, the Kings secured a 25-23 win, levelling the match at 1-1.

The third set unfolded with back-and-forth leadership changes, each team tying up and surpassing the other. Nicholas Possingham (#6) of the Kings and Tyler Chernishenko (#4) of the Kodiaks made key contributions. As the set approached its conclusion, the Kodiaks overcame the Kings, seizing the set with a score of 25-20. 

The Kodiaks started the fourth set, and the score remained close throughout. The Kings found a crucial 4-point lead nearing the end, with Dante Furlan (#8) making significant plays. However, the Kodiaks' Adam Boras (#3) showcased his skills with 2 digs, 2 kills, and 1 assist. The Kings maintained their lead, securing the set with a score of 25-18. 

In the decisive fifth set, the Kodiaks took an early lead, eager to bring home another win. The intensity grew as both teams fought fiercely, with Tom Wass (#3) of the Kings and Marshall Qually (#15) of the Kodiaks making key plays. The Kodiaks held onto their small lead, and the final set concluded with a nail-biting score of 15-13, securing a triumphant victory for the Kodiaks in this thrilling five-set battle.
