Rustlers win 5-set thriller against Kodiaks

In a matchup garnering interest across the league, the two sides did not disappoint when it came to entertainment.

The Lakeland Rustlers men's volleyball squad hosted the Lethbridge Kodiaks Friday night, with both teams following a split in their last wekeend series and both with players sitting due to injury. The Rustlers fed off the home crowd early, serving massive drives througout the 25-16 drubbing.

However, Lethbridge responded in the second, using their physicality to win points at the net, eventually prevailing 25-22. In the third, they again were able to pull away thanks to their net play, winning 25-21, amid a match taht was increasingly heated. In the fourth, Lakeland managed a series of serving runs to get back on top, hoplding on for the 25-20 win, setting up a 5th set.

In the fifth, both teams came out firing, trading massive serves and spikes. However, the Rustlers would make less errors than the Kodiaks to earn the 15-13 victory.

Brock Tomyn and Nolan Moes each had 17 kills, with Tomyn earning POG honours along with Tyler Chernisenko from the Kodiaks (a second libero to second left-side in one evening).
