Clippers Conquer Huskies in Straight Sets

By Jeff Misener

The Briercrest Clippers (6-1) entertained the Keyano Huskies (7-0) in ACAC men's volleyball action. With both teams leading their respective divisions, the match would be a good litmus test for two top contenders in the strong ACAC.

The Clippers opened their account with a line kill from Karyn Coleman and a strong block from surprise starter Cameron Jones. Huskies' Athus Silva responded in the middle, only to have Clippers' Jackson Anderson punish a ball from the left side. When Coleman and Anderson weren't trading blows with Silva and Nathan Luken, the blocking on both sides highlighted the action. A Tanner Bean ace sealed the first period for Briercrest, 25-22.

Heavy hitting marked the start of set two, with João Cunha and Coleman accounting for much of the carnage. Anderson joined Coleman in the fray, blasting through, around, and over blocks, and Adam Revet mashed a poor pass by the visitors. Keyano ran a series of backrow middle attacks in search of answers, but Jones polished off the frame, 25-18.

Passions were on full display as both teams stepped up the intensity in set three, with Cunha and the Huskies reaping the early benefits. Coleman, Anderson, and Jones colluded to claw away at the deficit, and Bean hit paydirt in the middle, but Cunha rolled up his sleeves in reply. After Anderson's pair of kills knotted the score, Clippers' setter Jeremy Martens stuffed Cunha to steal the set, 26-24.

Player of the Game for the victorious Clippers was Jackson Anderson, who delivered 14 kills, three aces and a block. Keyano received four kills, three digs, and two aces from Nathan Luken as part of his POG contribution.
