Clippers Use Strong Team Game to Sweep Rattlers

By Jeff Misener

The Medicine Hat Rattlers made the trek to Caronport, SK, to face the Briercrest Clippers in men's volleyball action. Briercrest used offensive and defensive contributions from several players to record a 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 triumph.

Short rallies and side outs marked the early action. Briercrest shot into the lead as Adam Revet settled into a run of serving success, but Medicine Hat countered as Jordan McKee delivered some impressive back row kills and teammate Jordan Waters added a pair of aces. The teams traded blocks and kills until a reception error from the visitors gave Briercrest the opening set.

The second period opened with aces aplenty as Briercrest carved an early edge. A monstrous triple block on McKee and thunderous blows from Chernik and Clippers' Karym Coleman highlighted the set. The hosts extended their advantage on Coleman's serve, but McKee delivered several impressive attacks to counter. In the critical moments, Revet tallied several kills and a solo block in quick succession, and Coleman painted the line to close the frame.

Even as Revet scorched a trifecta of aces to launch his team into the lead in set three, he dug up a series of sharp spikes on defense. The visitors capitalized on some lapses by the home team, with McKee featuring on attack. Coleman and Revet roofed Chernik before Revet crushed a ball in the middle. McKee panelled Coleman to offer the visitors a glimmer of hope, but the hosts proved too strong when it counted most.

Adam Revet stuffed the stat sheet for Briercrest, recording six kills, four digs, three aces, and two blocks, and his efforts earned him Player of the Game merit. For the Medicine Hat Rattlers, Jordan McKee received POG recognition, registering 11 kills, two aces and two digs.
