Broncos cut down Clippers in home opener

The Olds College Broncos came up big on home court, defeating the defending ACAC champion Briercrest College Clippers in four sets (25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Thursday.

Aidyn Phillips (14 kills, two aces) and Matheus Franca (12 kills, two aces, two blocks) each up 16-point performances for the Broncos (1-1), with Franca also posting 11 digs and Phillips tallying nine of his own. Player of the Game Nicholas Hill provided a spark off the bench with six kills, two aces and nine digs.

For Briercrest (2-1), reigning ACAC Overall Male Athlete of the Year Karym Coleman led all attackers with 20 points, including a game-high 19 kills. Meanwhile, Jackson Anderson added seven kills and seven digs, and Tanner Bean was a force at the net with a game-high six blocks to go with four kills.

The Broncos and Clippers will complete their weekend doubleheader at the Ralph Klein Centre tomorrow, with first serve set for 3 p.m. on ACACTV.ca, as well as on channel 1998 on TELUS OptikTV.
