Men's Volleyball Huskies outlast Eagles for weekend sweep

Fort McMurray, Alta. (October 14, 2023) - TKU Eagles 2 at Keyano Huskies 3 (20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13)

The Keyano Huskies downed The King's University Eagles in ACAC Men's Volleyball action Saturday in Fort McMurray, Alta., completing the home weekend sweep with a five-set (20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13) victory.

After the Huskies dropped the opening set to the Eagles, they stormed back to take a 2-1 sets lead, only to see things extended to the distance in the fifth set. Joao Cunha led the way offensively with 17 kills while fellow Brazillian Rafael Parada had 10 as part of a performance that also saw him collect seven aces, seven digs, and three blocks.

Athus Silva joined the party with nine kills of his own, tossing up three blocks to tie Parada and Cunha for the team lead. Noah Gagne handled setting duties with 34 assists, also adding a pair of digs and a pair of blocks. Cunha led the Huskies in the dig department with 14 overall.

Kaiden Aceron's 15 kills led the visiting Eagles while his seven digs was one behind team leader Tanner Piers on this day. Brenan Kuffert added seven kills while Piers had six of his own to add to his final stat line.

Up next for the Huskies is a trip down to Camrose to take on the Universit of Alberta - Augustana Vikings next weekend. The Eagles will return home to play their home opener, hosting the NWP Wolves in action next Friday and Saturday.
